Good Lessons for the Future

Third year college…first semester…minor subject…Social Science 313…Politics and Governance…

A very memorable sem. Because I have learned good lessons that I won’t forget. At first, I really do not like this subject because it is about politics and governance. I really hate it when it talks about politics and the government, in the Philippines huh. I sometimes felt asleep, but what I like in the time of this subject is when our professor tells something about somehow out of the lessons in the book. I am really much interested when he tells funny or serious stories that mostly come from his experiences than listening on him when discussing our lessons in the book.

I do not know if my classmates still remember those good lessons I have learned from our professor. But it doesn’t matter. I don’t care if they keep that lessons in mind or even more students have been told by our professor about those lessons. Better if they do. I do not know if it sounds simple or worthless to others, but for me, it is a treasure that I will keep in my mind.

One good lesson is about on how you raise and teach a child to become a nature lover, as well as the living things. “Instead of starting to teach the children how to read, write, and lots of ABC’s, why not teach them first on how to love and take good care of the nature, its surrounding and the living things in it.” This is how I understand about our professor’s story. The story is from his experience in the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan. It is on how teachers there teach their little students to love and take care, not to hurt nor destroy their surroundings. With loud voice, this is how our professor demonstrate it…

“Children! Look! That is mount Fuji, a gift of God, that we must love and take good care! And that is Chrysanthemum our national flower, a gift of God, that we must love and take good care!” I do not know if these are the exact words our professor said. But that is what he tries to convey to us. No wonder why Japan has clean surroundings and disciplined people. Because they grew up with love in nature and fear of their God. I am sure not all of them of course, but just most of them. Also, Japan is an industrialized country having a high level of technology compare to Philippines. Hmmm…Just wondering if our professor teach his children in that way?

Another lesson from our professor explaining why Philippines’ economic status grow too slow. He said…”Because Filipinos don’t appreciate their own.” Right! Most Filipino people like to buy imported products instead of locals.
That is why our local products won’t improve. China, our professor said, as an example of a country that their technology keeps on improving. See to it that their products are scattered everywhere in the Philippines.

Thanks to that professor for the good lessons I have learned from him. Still, I want to learn more lessons in life. Lessons…that will make a better future. For me…for mankind…and for the earth.
